He came to the United States in 1950 to attend school at Morehouse College and wound up signing to Columbia Records shortly thereafter. His debut record was called Drums Of Passion and was released in 1960. Olatunji also called his band by the same name. His music became many Americans first exposure to "world" music, and he quickly earned a following from many jazz musicians and began collaborating
