The band was founded by Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson, but they really came into their own when guitarist and singer Bradley Nowell joined on guitar and vocals. They released their own debut 40 Oz. To Freedom on Skunk Records but ultimately linked up with MCA. Sadly, Nowell passed away right before their breakthrough album was released. Their 1996 self titled album went five times Platinum.
