Description

named after the hosta queen herself

the UK's Clarence Elliott in 1955

Salvia 'Black and Blue' differs from other anise sage cultivars in that the calyx (the little cup that holds the open flower) is black instead of the usual green

The 10-15' tall stalks are adorned with red-striped leaves that also feature an attractive red leaf back which is especially visible when the new leaves unfurl

Arachniodes simulans Digitalis named after the hosta queenArachniodes simulans is a wide ranging (Bhutan, India, China, Japan) fern that's found natively on moist forest slopes from 1,500' to 9,000' elevation. In the garden, it forms a slowly expanding clump of lacy foliage that's tardily deciduous. Our original plant of Chinese origin is now 15" tall x 2' wide.
